We took an existing structure and remodeled it, to demonstrate and educate builders, engineers, home owners, students and the general public about resource efficiency. This project is being completed with Montana State University’s Extension. The Zero Energy House features: energy efficiency lighting and natural daylighting, solar PV array, efficient use and reuse of water, energy efficient heating that will maximize passive solar heating and solar hot water heat, Energy Star appliances, no-VOC paints and finishes, resource efficient materials, universal design, and drought tolerant native species/ xeriscaping. A highlight of the project will be the integrated monitoring systems designed to determine the performance of systems, materials and the overall building.
